What is Christian counseling?
Christian counseling is joining traditional therapy with Christian teachings. The client’s session includes scripture, prayer, and Biblical examples. The goal of Christian counseling is to help the client walk through life’s difficulties while keeping God as the guide. Christian therapy is not limited to only spiritual issues but also includes talking about emotions and physical health. Licensed counselor, Christy Elzer, believes it is important to address all parts of the person with the body, mind, and soul.
It is also notable to remember the privacy of the counseling office allows the client to discuss any and all spiritual issues. This must be remembered since many people hold back upsetting thoughts due to the fear of being judged.
Christian counseling has the ability to help a person in many areas of their life.
These areas include:
ADHD
Anxiety
Career Stress
Confusion
Depression
Divorce
Grief
Guilt
Life Adjustments (Empty nest, job loss, retirement, getting older, new job)
Marital Issues
OCD
Parenting
Spiritual Issues
Stress Management
Trauma
Christy Elzer and Christian counseling
Christy’s faith was very important after a devastating loss in 2012. At the time she was a senior level computer professional, but many upsetting factors made her decide to change careers to help others. Christy gained her professional counseling degree from Liberty University. She has additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and uses it on a daily basis with her clients. Christy believes in CBT because of how it focuses on the thoughts of a person. Many scriptures like the Philippians 4:8 work well with CBT.
“Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (KJV).”
